Yet, not many people know that Saint Nicholas was born in the ancient Patara, the capital city of Lycian League. Its ruins lie in the present-day borders of Antalya province in Turkey.
Patara is the city where the miracles of Saint Nicholas took place. It is Turkey’s one of the most visited travel destinations, as well as the nearby ancient Myra (present-day Demre town) where Saint Nicholas became the bishop.
Travelers come to Patara and Demre from all over the world, and not only Turkey. These two spots are often included in the yacht charter itineraries.
What to do?
- Enjoy an excursion to Patara and its ancient ruins that include the triumphal arch, chapels, a temple, the lighthouse, a theatre.
- Visit Patara beach, one of the most beautiful and longest sand beaches in the Mediterranean.

- In Demre visit Saint Nicholas Church. Ancient Byzantine Church was built over the tomb of Saint Nicholas.
How to get here?
Demre is 140 km away from the Antalya international airport, and Patara is 230 km away. You can visit Demre and Patara after embarking a charter yacht in Demre or Finike.
Another option: when cruising south of Turkey from Marmaris, Gocek, or Fethiye.
