For the second straight year, Barcelona and the world-class marina, OneOcean Port Vell, hosted the MYBA Charter Show 2018, one of the most prestigious yachting exhibitions on water.

The port opened its decks to participants from all over the world on April 23rd. Surrounded by fantastic decorations of Barcelona’s old quarters from one side and the Balearic Sea from another, the showcase kept the quays open for the guests until April 26 showing the very finest Spanish hospitality.

The Worldwide Yachting Association, MYBA, was founded in 1984. The members of this internationally renowned professional organization are engaged in various fields of the superyacht and recreational yachting industry, such as charter and technical management, yacht constructions and brokerage.

This year more than 50 vessels were on display moored to the decks of the modern marina. Most of them you would call ultra-luxury steel behemoths longer than a hundred feet each. The largest vessels were 270ft (82m) m/y ALFA NERO, 254ft (77.4m) m/y LEGEND, and just several feet shorter m/y TITANIA.

No matter how often brokers view mega yachts, each time the head spins from seeing such unique and extravagant interiors, Jacuzzi on deck, exclusive porcelain, original pieces of art, and the hospitality of the crew. Speaking of yacht squads, some of the crewmembers working onboard the 184ft m/y THE WELLESLEY presented their talents and played live music. A true and very professional band performance impressed everybody who was visiting THE WELLESLEY that day.

Among other memorable moments from MYBA Charter Show 2018 were the visits on board beautiful catamarans with modern exteriors, s/y AIAXAIA that arrived at the show from Croatia, the infinite pool of the m/y AQUA NERO, and impressive masts of both s/y GERMANIA NOVA and ALEXA OF LONDON.

In fairness, it’s worth mentioning that four days of MYBA Charter show were busy not only with agents inspecting the yachts and meeting the crew. Exhibition area didn’t close its gates until late at night turning into the venue for the parties or cocktail rendezvous. The festive atmosphere was deemed a resounding success.

The official program of MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona included a very interesting destination seminar. “Cruising along the Catalonian coast” was the main theme. Over an hour Judith Estrella, who knows the area perfectly, presented a very beautiful itinerary along the Costa Brava, that is Spain’s wild coast as she explained. Judith and her colleagues are sure that this cruising area will soon win hearts of those who are looking for a charming and unspoilt yacht charter destination.

MYBA Charter Show is always much more than just about the yachts. Besides the main exhibition on water, there were also exhibitor stands with industry-related products & services from various companies and agencies. It was a big pleasure to visit our colleagues from Galapagos and South East Asia. And let’s not forget about traditional MYBA Superyacht Chefs’ Competition. This year there were three categories to compete in: yachts 56m and over, yachts from 43 to 55m, and yachts up to 42m. Lauren Everet from s/y SEAHAWK, Andrea Compidonico from m/y VICTORY, and James Wright from m/y AWOL were awarded the first prize in each category, respectively.

The 30th edition of MYBA Show allowed representatives of the world’s leading yacht charter companies and industry professionals to familiarize with an encompassing array of mega yachts available for luxury charters for the following sailing season in the Mediterranean and far beyond its borders.
